HYUNDAI HOPE ON WHEELS LAUNCHES NATIONAL TV AD CAMPAIGN TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER Hyundai Hope On Wheels Commemorates September National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with New Television Campaign and More Than $10 Million in Grants
COSTA MESA, Calif. – September 4, 2012 – Hyundai Hope On Wheels, a partnership of Hyundai Motor America and its more than 800 Hyundai dealers across the U.S., today marked the beginning of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a new TV advertising campaign aimed at shining a spotlight on pediatric cancer and spreading hope in the fight for a cure.
The new Hyundai Hope On Wheels TV commercial, entitled “wristband”, will air throughout the month of September and will represent a major portion of the month’s ad buy for the Hyundai brand. As the commercial makes clear, childhood cancer impacts everyone. When cancer touches a child, it touches us all – doctors, nurses, families, friends, neighbors, and teammates. That’s why it is so vital to put an end to this terrible disease. The new commercial, which begins airing nationally on September 3, will also be highlighted on the Hyundai Hope On Wheels website and in marketing communications throughout the month of September. As part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hope On Wheels will donate more than $10.25 million to children’s hospitals nationwide for pediatric cancer research during the month of September. Since its inception in 1998, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has committed more than $57 million to childhood cancer research and programs for kids and families battling the disease.
“In the United States, every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. Sometimes we can forget the family, friends, teachers, doctors, neighbors and other close ones this diagnosis affects. This is a disease that’s felt throughout the entire community,” said Steve Shannon, Vice-President Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. "At Hyundai, we place a great deal of value on addressing some of the most critical challenges our society faces today. One of those very important challenges is pediatric cancer. Our new national TV commercial helps raise awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, while celebrating the lives of the brave children battling this disease."
Featured in the new commercial is CJ George, the 2012 Hyundai Hope On Wheels National Youth Ambassador. CJ has dedicated his life to fighting cancer since his diagnosis three years ago. He is now in remission and is back to living the normal life of a 13-year-old – playing sports, hanging out with friends, and enjoying the great outdoors. But CJ is also passionate about helping other kids who are battling cancer. He offers inspiration by traveling to hospitals across the nation and sharing his story of hope and recovery.
"While great progress has been made is fighting childhood cancer, there is still much more to do," said Dawn George, mother of CJ George. "Childhood cancer remains a leading killer of U.S. children. As a mother who has seen her young son successfully battle cancer, I am so encouraged by all the wonderful work Hyundai Hope On Wheels is doing to raise awareness and critical funds for the cause. There is real hope that childhood cancer can be beaten once and for all."
The Story of Hope commercial was created by INNOCEAN USA, an advertising agency based in Huntington Beach, CA. This is the second National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month commercial produced by the agency for Hope On Wheels .
